Fine Blanking Technology
Specialists in fine blanking from 40 to 630 tonnes and conventional presswork up to 450 tonnes using either coil feed progression presses or manual feed single action presses. This is all supported by automated linishing, de-burring, assembly by spot, MIG and TIG welding, riveting and other ancillary processes.
William Mitchell started trading in 1824 as a conventional presswork company manufacturing the first commercially produced metal pen nibs. The company relocated to its present site at Tramway in 1986 and in 1988 invested in its first fine blanking press.
William Mitchell has continued to invest in fine blanking technology, with 100, 320, 450 and 630 tonne presses. This range of presses now gives William Mitchell the ability to produce components from 0.1mm to 16mm in thickness and in materials ranging from hot and cold rolled steels, stainless steel and a variety of non- ferrous metals and alloys.
Products manufactured are shipped globally for the automotive market both to OEM’s and 2nd tier. Products include engine components, seat reclining mechanisms, safety restraint components, braking components and lighting system parts. Components are also manufactured for the construction, precision hand and power tool industries.
The fine blanking process is used to produce components to a very high standard of dimensional accuracy in material thicknesses that are not possible with conventional presswork, and eliminates the need for secondary machining processes.
